Day 36, Friday 6th September – Cobar to Deniliquin

Last night was the 3rd time in 12 months that I have spent the night in Cobar. The Ironbutt Association Memorial ride us held annually to Wilcannia and most people head to Cobat for the night, I also stopped here on the way back from the IBA AGM in Chinchilla in March The cabin at the Caravan Park might cost $10 more than the budget room at the cheapest motel, but its $80 better if you know what I mean.

Oh, and I will likely be back here next weekend, and since the memorial ride is a week earlier this year that will be night #4

At least the bakery makes a good donut!

Did a double take here. This is the KwikAsAir colours from the 80’s and 90’s, before TNT rolled all their Express divisions into one. I worked there unloading trucks at 4am while getting expelled from Melbourne Uni. Good times😁
Mum plays word with friends with a driver for this company, so every time I see one of their trucks stationary I grab a pic. Not Ray this time
Stopped to use the pay phone at Mt Hope to book a motel tonight. #oldskool

3  or 4  Wheels?
I’d never been to Carrathool, nor down the Carrathool to Conargo Road. When asked about the road the fella on the 4 wheeler told me “the dirt sections are pretty good, but the sealed sections are rough as guts!”

He was right, the sealed sections were potholed and felt like the seal was applied straight to the corrugations. Not a road for wet conditions.

No stickers at the pub, but some rello”s who live there had a soare
I spent what felt like an hour opening every. Single. Bag in my search for my wet weather pants. Was about to  call Liz when I realised I hadn’t checked the bag with the tent in it. Sure enough, at some point I was that confident it wouldn’t rain if I used the bag that we never touched. Wrong

Walking back from the RSL after-dinner I spotted these two grazing on that fresh town grass.

As i raised my arms to take the photo the  roo on the left took two bounds towards me.

I had heard that having arms raised is seen as aggressive so I lowered them and walked briskly towards the motel, checking behind me every ten metres.

There was no way I could outrun the roo in either direction, and I couldn’t face having to tell people I got attacked by a kangaroo in the main street if Deni on the last night of a 36 night, 37 day trip…
