Day 34, Thursday 4th September – Barcaldine to Charleville

Since its only a 400km day I chose to go for a bit of a walk around Barcaldine before departure

Wat Memorial
Given the number of devastating fires that Barcaldine had, I was surprised they didn’t have 2 fire stations..
Linfox’s Intermodal Depot. 2 20 foot containers, a carport and a forklift…
Tree of Knowledge fenced off for some unknown reason
I did a pub crawl last night, and had a beer at the Railway. Of the 5 hotels in town, only 2 are currently operating. The Railway and The Shakespeare.
Artesian Hotel
Union Hotel
Daytime view from the balcony
Fancy stairwell

Made Blackall, where I spent an hour or so looking around (and talking Ural)

Had a beer in this pub 28 years ago! Major Mitchell got around back in the day
Not wanting to be outdone..
Jackie Howe
Another Black Stump town

Tambo therefore got short shrift timewise…

The Ural needs a hood ornament
Road train art
Road train IRL!

And then on to Augathella

Found a friend
The big Meat Ant

And then on to Charleville

For all the talk I was disappointed with the steak I had, especially for the price
Charleville War Memorial
The Hotel Carones was the social hub of the west in the post WW2 era
Display at the SES on floods and flood prevention. Seems they don’t need the boat anymore
I stayed at the Cattle Camp Hotel, based solely on staying there in 1997. Lets just say I won’t stay there next time I am in town
