Day 15, Saturday 16th August

Talked with the fellas on these bikes this morning, and when we asked for any advice they both said “Don’t go!”.🫣 They had been to Weipa and (I think) felt a bit out of  their depth, so fair enough.

They had at least 10 yrs on me, and the Tiger is a top heavy bike (this is the exact model I hit the roo on), And the 1960 BSA had been battered and beaten by the road. The ocky strap’s hadn’t managed to hold the fella’s thongs and he was shipping the bike back south from Townsville.

Lizzie being helpful
So i rewarded her with a sit down breakfast
And possibly her last Double Shot Soy Latte for the next two weeks😁
Stopped by the Split Rock Aboriginal Art site, was warm enough we were happy we took water. 600 metres return, but it felt straight up at times
Mandatory stop for a Steam Train Mural at Laura, and a drink at the pub😉

And then the dirt started – view from Liz’s seat. Was only 7 kms of dirt before we hit Hann Rive

Short day at 140 odd kms, just enough dirt to get a feel for it.

Spent a good hour checking over the bike to find nothing loose, so that’s a good start.

Liz has booked the next couple of nights accommodation at Coen, Archer River Roadhouse and then 2 nights at Bramwell Tourist Park. This only leaves 1 night up in the air before we hit “The Top”.

Time for a swim in the shipping container pool, before an early outback dinner, Hann River style.
