Day 11, Tuesday 12th August – The Bruce Part 1

One of the worlds largest Coal Export Terminals, the two wharfs  at Hay Point handle 100 million tonnes a year to Japan and other countries
Enormous infrastructure to handle the 2km long trains, coal storage, loading etc etc

Once we got moving it was a full day of 425 odd kms of The Bruce Highway.

The Big Mango
More Sugarcane &
Cane Trains
And the occasional truck barrelling towards the highway…

We got along at 85-90kms an hour and largely blended in with the flow of traffic, making good use of passing lanes and the Bluetooth UHF to let the truckies know they could “send it” as we’d back off to get them through. Turned out to be a low stress day.

Lunch at the Bakers Tray Bakery in Bowen, where we were met by the local outlet of our sponsor😁
Liz being a Larrikin🤣
I had said to Liz that I had never been in to Bowen, but when we got back to the bike I saw a familiar mural and so Liz got the drive by mural tour of Bowen. I was only allowed 1 photo opp!

She may not look like it, but I know she was impressed. 😉

Into Townsville about 4.30pm, staying here two nights – sidecar getting a service in the morning.

Mariams Thai hit the spot for dinner, and some lower level planning started for the Cape!
