Pvt Thomas Stephen Cole Kinchin

Esperance to Albany via Ravensthorpe, and the Horsepower Highway

On the road at 8am sharp since the aim was to hit the National ANZAC Centre in Albany by 3pm. Only 550kms away…

Late breakfast in Ravensthorpe, and then helped a couple of grey nomads check the oil level in their rented campervan. Turns out there isn’t a dipstick😁, It’s a menu item on the dash. Thanks to Google for that. Bonus info is that the black button on the steering wheel is also a mouse, just in case you ever hire a Mercedes Sprinter based camper van😉

Small diversion to Gnowerup and the lower 1/2 of the Horsepower Highway.

Missed by a couple of days…
Photo of the day!
New lick of paint evident here

Managed to ford a floodway with 15cm of water flowing over it just before the Stirling Range.

Made it to the ANZAC Centre at 2.45 pm and spent 2 hours there. Well worth it, especially to confirm a great great uncle was on the first ship convoy to leave Australia after the start of WW1.

Not only that, Pvt Thomas Stephen Cole Kinchin was at the Gallipoli campaign from start to end, medically discharged and returned to Australia in May 1916. Then re-enlisted in 1918, and again in the Volunteer Defence Corps in 1938. Looks like i have a new research project!
