Well, its finally here π. The 8 weeks planning had paid off,,π (some ppl in town had been planning for years, booking campsites a year in advance etc etc
With our knowledge of Cape Range NP (checkpoints meaning an early departure, no shade, traffic, no shadeππ) we made the decision to stay local.
A quick trip into town for breakky and lunch supplies saw us face our 1st queue of the trip,! 5 minutes at the bakery which had a wide range and was well organised, and then back to our viewing area

It was genuinely interesting to note the changes as the eclipse occurred. The wind died off, the temperature dropped and the light changed as we used our $4 eclipse glasses to periodically look at the Sun. Then darkness ( but not really ), and the frogs started up.
A quick look at the Sun, a photo , and it was over. Well, apart from the above happening again in reverse. The frogs stopped, the wind started again and before long it was hot again.
By staying in town we could avoid the traffic, and so we went to the Exmouth Visitor Centre , stood in line for 10 minutes π and paid for the tour.
A bit of history of the town, built in the late 60’s /early 70’s in support of the Navy comms, by both the USA and Australia, a section on the Ningaloo Reef, and a section on the Indigenous history.
It was now mid afternoon so we found ourselves at the local pool, reminiscent of any pool built in the 70’s
Gourmet pizza at the Whalebone Brewery followed by the drone show saw us back in camp by 9, where we started packing for a 6am Thursday departure.
