Into the Storm, well, Cyclone

Up at 6, packed the bike and enjoyed a Mining Camp breakfast and discussion with a couple of gold fossickers.

They took us through the permit ($30 lifetime), the apps, the gps, the rules, regs etc. While the fella was cagey yesterday when i asked whether it was a passion, an expensive hobby or a business, his wife let on that they have been at it two years, having caught the gold bug while working for larger listed mining companies. I didn’t get a pic of their Hilux, but it was painted all over in bedliner!

Liz packed us a crib lunch with all the fixin’s and we headed out.

After the northerly headwind yesterday, we made good time with a decent southerly tailwind today. 85 kph all the way NorthπŸ˜‰

1st stop for the day was Leinster, a town now owned by BHP and home to workers for the nearby nickel mines.

Next stop was Wiluna, where alternative route options were briefly discussed.

And dismissed.πŸ™

Then onto the dirt to Meekatharra.

The bike was quite confidence inspiring in the varied conditions…

First bike of mine Liz has ever ridden!

On into Meekatharra where a pub meal awaits.
