While packing the bike this morning, i heard a steam train whistle and immediately told Liz we were at Defcon 1 – we needed to get a photo before it left town!

The unimpressed look is because the Steam Train scavenger hunt finished in November 2022, and Liz is holding the flag for this years event which revolves around Murals with Wheels…
Anyway, pisstake photo out of the way there was an awkward silence on the intercom as we discussed options for Plan B. For a minute there Liz was expecting to get to Exmouth this Wednesday, and i was trying to figure out how to tell her Exmouth was NEXT Wednesday. She soon realised her math was out and i had dodged a bullet as we wandered down the Pichi Richi pass ho Port Augusta. Fuel, breakfast and don the wets for an unexpected shower.
After Port Augusta it didn’t take long before we made it
tty to Kimba for the obligatory photos,:

While here we had a good chat with Mark, crossing from Perth to Sydney via Melb on his slightly more aerodynamic 3 wheeler to raise Funds for Legacy.

Stopped and had a look at the free camping house 30 kms east of Kyancutta? Nicely curated old farmhouse (like a museum) as well. The latest in mobile phones (for 1980 )

On to Wirrulla. I had hoped to get fuel from one of the small towns but they were all closed because it was Sunday. Jerry cans it is.
Asking Liz for the keys to the lock i get a quizzical look. Liz delves into her backpack and comes up keyless, and announces “i thought you had them,”
I take a look in the boot of the sidecar while Liz goes to the loo. Then i recheck the backpack. Then i try to remember, who had responsibility for them at Port Augusta,? I was sure i gave them tto Liz. Did i leave them sitting on the ground? Would someone have handed them in? How would we get them to us,?
It was about about this time that Liz returned and having had time to think , found the keys in her other bag. Crisis averted, just in time as the tone in both of our voices was changing..

Ceduna for splash and dash before snagging a cabin at the Penong CP.
